LEADERSHIP EDUCATION MENTORING INSTITUTE (LEMI Classes) explained

The LEMI (or TJEd) continuum is a series of classes for students ages 11 and up.  The classes build on each other and help create a rigorous, healthy, and accessible liberal arts based scholar phase for our middle and high school students. All of our mentors for these classes are trained in teaching the classes and mentoring scholar phase.  Some are even mentors to the mentors. They have many years of experience mentoring scholar phase and will be a great asset to your and your child.

All of the scholar classes are incentive based, offering either extrinsic or intrinsic awards.  Students have a list of requirements to complete each semester in order to be eligible for award.  The Learning Corner hosts an exciting awards night in January and again in May to honor our scholars’ accomplishments for the year.  During the year, students should expect to be asked to read and discuss important classic books, write papers, study documents, give oral presentations in their classes, and participate in class simulations.  They will learn from class lectures and activities, and they will benefit from opportunities to manage their time and their output.  Developing scholar skills is the focus of each of our scholar classes.

The above graphic illustrates the scholar class continuum.  For the 2022/2023 school year, The Learning Corner is happy to offer the following classes.  Here is the suggested order:

Ages 11 & up – Georgics is a recommended beginner class.

Ages 12 & up – Families most often start their students off with either Key of Liberty or Georgics and Shakespeare.  This gives students a full load their first year.

Ages 13 & up – Sword of Freedom and Hero Generation are two one semester classes that study the American Civil War and WWI/WWII.

Ages 14 & up – Pyramid Project is a study of truth and logic.  It is a transitional scholar phase marking students’ move from extrinsic rewards to intrinsic rewards.  This class is NOT offered at present (for the 2022/2023 school year), but may be requested and held if there is enough interest.

Ages 15 & up – Quest I/II and Our Place in History are advanced scholar classes.  Both classes require students to spend much more study time to read, write, listen, and research the topics studied.  At this level, all students need a writing mentor to guide them through the writing process.

Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] for individual questions or for help to walk through the class options.  We are excited about our offerings and we are here to help in any way we can.
