Our Place in History

Too often we focus on the distant past, failing to recognize the significant impact of more recent events on our daily lives. Study the period of time following the end of World War II through the 2020’s in this year-long course. Discover the meaning behind commonly used phrases such as “Don’t drink the Kool-Aid,” and “I am not a crook!” Learn to pay more attention to what is happening now in the world around us. Explore the people and events from this eight-decade span through readings, lectures, simulations, document studies, and other activities. Learn about generational cycles and how they are affected by history, as well as how they in turn affect history. What do we agree with? What do we disagree with? Does this help us understand different generations and the choices they made? I LEARNED AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF THINGS I DIDN’T KNOW BEFORE. FROM WRITING SKILLS TO KNOWLEDGE I JUST SHOULD KNOW, THIS CLASS COVERED IT ALL. It held me accountable for things I really wanted to avoid doing like taking less than an hour to write a paper or doing an assignment an hour before it’s due. Teacher Genne was a phenomenal teacher. Whenever I felt like this class was too much it hit me that I needed to work on that certain area of myself. This class helped me understand that for you to turn in a good assignment or a good paper all you have to do is put time, effort, and common sense into it. Don’t mind my bad grammar, I have to get to bed (she taught me better). Great content, better teacher, relatable and personal. Great class.
